RESTORATIVE PRACTICES:
A SUCCESSFUL APPROACH TO REDUCE DELINQUENCY

The recent removal of State Attorney Monique Worrell in Orlando and Osceola, who is a proponent of restorative practices, could have impacts on the use of those practices in the juvenile justice system. The Juvenile Justice committee is concerned about this. Join the JJC meeting on September 29, Finemark Bank, 10 am to learn about restorative practices in our community. RSVP to Libbie Bramson by September 22.
2023 legislative Delegation DayLWVCC SPEAKS AT 2023 LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION DAY

The LWVCC was well represented at the September 11, 2023 Legislative Delegation Meeting held in the Collier County Commission Chambers in the Government Center. Representatives from over 40 local organizations, including universities, local governments, and nonprofits, had the opportunity to present budget and legislative requests directly to Senator Kathleen Passidomo (District 28), and Representatives Adam Botana (District 80), Lauren Melo (District 82), and Bob Rommel (District 81). LWVCC President Diane Preston Moore presented some of the League’s legislative priorities, and she was followed by Cathy Hackney, who spoke about education. UPDATE ON REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS AMENDMENT PETITIONS

Good news! There are now enough petitions verified to qualify for a Florida Supreme Court review. This is a huge milestone for the campaign, which has more than a third of the necessary petitions validated, putting the amendment to allow abortion access in Florida a step closer to qualifying for the 2024 ballot. We are not there yet, so please continue to collect signed petitions from people registered to vote in Florida. Many thanks for all your help! Visit Floridians Protecting Freedom for information about the campaign or contact Janet Hoffman.
