Know Your County Government
Know Your County Government (KYCG) is a program that exposes a group of 30 to 45 high school students to Collier County Government departments and agencies. The program objectives are two-fold: to develop a cadre of informed young voters who will become active civic participants; and to show students that there are a variety of career pathways within county government for high school graduates. The 2023 program consists of three full days over a period of 5 weeks during which students visit approximately 15 departments including the Supervisor of Elections, Sheriff’s Department, Tax Collector, Tax Appraiser, Traffic Management, Mosquito Control, Landfill and Toxic Waste, Wastewater Management, Fire Department, Facilities Management, CAT bus services, Collier County Public Schools, the Courthouse, Clerk of Courts, and Domestic Animal Services. The program culminates with students attending a Board of Commissioners meeting and having lunch with the Commissioners.
The program was started in 1983 and is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Collier County, the 4-H Club, and Collier County Public Schools.
