Late registration/walk in price will be strictly enforced
Help build our League and educate the general public! Our most effective method of membership recruitment is the General Meeting! Invite a guest to our next General Meeting and support LWVCC!
| WHY DO I HAVE TO REGISTER FOR THE GENERAL MEETING BY TUESDAY INSTEAD OF THURSDAY (the way it has been for years….)?
In order to provide us with the variety and quality of food we receive, Tiburon needs a luncheon count by the previous Tuesday afternoon.
PLEASE REGISTER FOR THE MARCH 11 GENERAL MEETING BY NOON, TUESDAY, MARCH 5
A few tips about General Meeting Registration:
- be sure to log in to receive “member pricing” for you and your guests
- there are TWO parts to signing up for the General Meeting:
registration and payment
- you will receive TWO Club Express emails, one that states you have registered, and one that states you have paid. If payment is not received within 30 minutes or registration, your registration will be cancelled.
- Can’t remember if you have registered? Try again! If you have already registered,
Club Express will tell you. You will not be able to register twice.
For an excellent overview of the registration and payment process, watch this brief video | SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
WE NEED YOU TO FOLLOW US!
Our 2024 social media campaign created to motivate younger voters (21-40) to take part in our elections was launched on February 12th! Starring in the campaign is one of our newest members, Jessie Howkins, who is 25 and a great spokesperson for the League. We will have something new every couple of days.
You can help! Please follow us on Instagram! It’s easy to find, just put #lwvcolliercounty into the search field when you open Instagram and then hit FOLLOW when our account comes up. We need these video posts to go “viral” so please like, comment, and share the individual posts.
Also, please contact young people you might know and ask them to do the same… we need help spreading the word to that younger crowd. We are posting the videos on Facebook, too, and please get on Facebook and share it to your friends.
Need a Tutorial on Facebook or Instagram?
Stay after the luncheon on March 11th to get hands on advice on how to use Facebook or Instagram. Jen Lapham, our new Social Media chair, will be there to help….just send Jen a quick email to let her know you’d like to stay for a few minutes; her mail is socialmedia@lwvcolliercounty.org.

Let’s Save Lives from Gun Violence
March 4 @ 5:00-6:00
Join us for an informative evening on Monday, March 4 at 5:00 PM via Zoom. We will be looking at access to firearms in Florida as a public health issue. Florida laws related to gun ownership, usage, and Risk Protective Orders will be examined. Come learn about what practices and laws save lives. Registration is needed to obtain the zoom link. All LWVCC members and their guests are invited.
REGISTER | DECIPHERING THE NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE:
Ensuring the Candidate with the Most Votes Wins the Presidency!
March 6 @ 1:00-2:00
No one wants the candidate who loses the popular vote to become President of the United States, which is entirely possible with the current statewide “winner take all” system. In 2006, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact was introduced. It’s an elegant solution to ensure that the candidate with the most votes in all 50 states wins the presidency. Learn how this works without a constitutional amendment.
The League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVFL) is offering the opportunity for Floridians for the National Popular vote to do several presentations during the next year, sponsored and promoted by the LWVFL, to “spread the word” and educate League members and other Floridians about NPV. Suzanne Low, the NPV team leader for LWV Collier County and District Chair of Floridians for the National Popular Vote, will present "Deciphering the NPV" on Zoom on March 6 at 1 PM Eastern.
The League is welcoming anyone interested to attend, so invite your friends and colleagues to sign themselves up too!

The League has formed a partnership with Florida Weekly, a free local newspaper published once a week, to further the education of voters as part of the Get-Out-the-Vote campaign. The paper will print regular non-partisan articles, using the LWV logo, about upcoming elections, registration, voting options, and forums, culminating in a four-page Voter Guide in August for the Primary Election and again in late October for the General Election. Links to recent articles will be provided here in the LWVCC Update.
Your Vote is Your Voice | LEARNING OURSELVES, TEACHING OTHERS
The Education Committee’s Opinion Piece Kindergarten: Ready or Not? in the Naples Daily News was the result of a three month study of public and private PreK programs and teacher preparation efforts At her October presentation to LWVCC Superintendent Ricciardelli noted that the lack of PreK opportunity was a serious challenge to CCPS and this week committee members met with the superintendent again to discuss our work on PreK and ask about additional CCPS priorities. The Education committee is creating a plan for further work in the next year supporting public Education.
| KNOW YOUR COUNTY GOVERNMENT
Day 2 of KYCG was a big success! Fun was had by students, teachers, 4-H representatives, and "Leaguers" as we visited Domestic Animal Services, Emergency Operations/911 Call Center, Landfill and Toxic Waste, Eagle Lakes Park, the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Mosquito Control, and the Public School Administration.

When you get takeout, remember to tell the store you don’t need any condiments, cutlery, plates and straws. Check the bag before you leave the store! Americans use more than 36 billion disposable plastic utensils a year, and countless straws, plastic plates, and tiny packets of condiments. These are almost impossible to recycle. |
