Volunteers Needed!
Volunteer to observe the Collier County Canvassing Board for the 2024 August Primary! In an open public meeting, the Canvassing Board conducts the Logic and Accuracy test of ballot processing and voting machines, reviews Vote-by-Mail (VBM) and provisional ballots, certifies the official results of the election and observes the manual audit of precinct/race. This is an important League service in support our mission of the free and fair elections.

Volunteers are needed for the following dates and times:
  • Wednesday, July 21, 9:00 a.m. (L&A test)
  • Monday, August 19, 9:00 a.m. (VBM ballots)
  • Tuesday, August 20, 5:00 p.m. (VBM ballots, Preliminary returns)
  • Friday, August 23, 9:00 a.m. (Provisional ballots and 1st unofficial results)
  • Wednesday, August 28, 9:00am (Official certification)
  • Wednesday, September 4, 9:00 a.m. (Manual audit)
The meetings will be held at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples 34104. If you can observe one or more meetings, please sign in to www.lwvcolliercounty.org and go to ‘take action’ and select ‘volunteer.’ Volunteer observers will receive background information to familiarize them with this interesting and important task.

LEAGUE POSITION ON AMENDMENT 1

The LWV in Florida is opposed to the passage of Amendment 1, which would make school board elections in Florida partisan. Please read LWVCC's Letter to the Editor, which was published in today's edition of the Naples Daily News.

Get in Line ShirtHELP SEND THE MESSAGE:
WEAR A LEAGUE SHIRT!

Since early February, the LWVCC’s social media campaign to engage younger voters (“Get in Line, or Don’t Whine, VOTE”) has been viewed nearly 40,000 times, targeted at Gen Zs and Millennials in southwest Florida. We are constantly creating new posts, and the number of viewers continues to increase daily! You can follow the campaign on Instagram (#LWVCC), TikTok (lwvcolliercounty), and Facebook (lwvcolliercounty). To see the posts, view them on YouTube.

We are using themed t-shirts as giveaways for those we interview, but we also wanted to make the shirts available to members and friends. Ordering is easy; shirts, hats, or mugs will be sent directly to your home. The shirts are $15 plus tax and shipping and are available in multiple sizes for women and men.

RETURNING CITIZENS POSTCARD PARTIES
July 18 & 25 @ 1:00-3:00

The League of Women Voters of Florida is committed to helping returning Citizens regain the right to vote after completing their sentence. The State is a founding partner in getting Amendment 4 on the ballot in 2018, which overwhelmingly passed with 64% of the Florida Electorate. The League helped reduce fees and administrative costs returning citizens were required to pay. Cecile Scoon, LWVFL Co-President, established a state program to identify and educate returning citizens of their rights and developed training for attorneys to work pro bono for those in need.

Now the League still needs your help! We have many more postcard to write and are also writing postcards for our local Get Out The Vote initiative. We have scheduled postcard writing parties on Thursdays: June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25.

For those of us that have been part of this, it is truly a rewarding experience. Please come join us!

Their website is loaded with information and their frequent Instagram posts are inspirational. You can sign up online to take the challenge and be counted in their statistics on the impact of the challenge. Or you can just go to “Resources” then “Assets” to download an Action Picker to keep track of some strategies.
