VOTER GUIDE UPDATE

How exciting to share that 33 LWVCC members have donated $6,400 of the $9,600 we need to print the Primary and General Election Voter Guides. This is a wonderful response. There’s still time for you to become part of this important mission to share nonpartisan candidate information. As you may know, our Florida Weekly partnership has changed this year, and we will no longer get free printing of the Voter Guide but have to pay a reduced printing fee of $9,600.

You may make your donation online below or mail to LWVCC, PO Box 9883, Naples, FL 34101. Please include Voter Guide on the memo line. Your gift to the Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, is tax-deductible (Tax ID Number: 59-2659558) according to law.

We are grateful for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Teresa Stohs at 913-271-6023.

FOR MANUAL AUDIT – AUGUST PRIMARY

We are so pleased to have many members volunteering to observe the Collier County Canvassing Board for the August 20 Primary election! We’ve filled all the volunteer spots for the meetings during the August time frame, but still have room for a couple of volunteers for the Manual Audit on September 4. If you can observe the Manual Audit, please sign up at www.lwvcolliercounty.org, clicking ‘take action’ then ‘volunteer’. You’ll receive background information on observing this important and interesting task.

That said, Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public so anyone and everyone can attend. If you choose to join us, please wear your LWV name pin. Meetings take place at the Supervisor of Elections buildings, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples 34104.

VOLUNTEER

LEAGUE POSITION ON AMENDMENT 1

The LWV in Florida is opposed to the passage of Amendment 1, which would make school board elections in Florida partisan. Please read LWVCC's Letter to the Editor, which was published in the July 17 edition of the Naples Daily News.

UNDERSTANDING OUR FLORIDA GOVERNMENT

Sparker

Understanding Our Florida Government is a series by League ambassador Sandy Parker. Sandy is the founder and publisher of Sparker's Soapbox, whose mission is to encourage and facilitate informed voting in Collier County. Learn more at sparkers-soapbox.com

Five county constitutional officers, together with a Board of County Commissioners, form the executive branch of government in Collier County and in each of the 46 other non-charter counties in Florida. This “plural executive” form of government established by the Florida constitution ensures that no single person is responsible for the administration of all county functions.

RETURNING CITIZENS POSTCARD PARTIES
August 1 @ 1:00-3:00

The League of Women Voters of Florida is committed to helping returning Citizens regain the right to vote after completing their sentence. The State is a founding partner in getting Amendment 4 on the ballot in 2018, which overwhelmingly passed with 64% of the Florida Electorate. The League helped reduce fees and administrative costs returning citizens were required to pay. Cecile Scoon, LWVFL Co-President, established a state program to identify and educate returning citizens of their rights and developed training for attorneys to work pro bono for those in need.

Now the League still needs your help! We have many more postcard to write and are also writing postcards for our local Get Out The Vote initiative. We have scheduled a postcard writing parties on Thursday, August 1.

For those of us that have been part of this, it is truly a rewarding experience. Please come join us!
