Let's Grow Together! Bring a Friend to Our General Meetings

Teresa Stohs headshot 200x250NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

The LWVFL is looking for League members who are Naturalized Citizens. They want to talk to you about how current events are impacting you as part of research/support for a lawsuit. If you are a Naturalized Citizen, please reach out to me at president@lwvcolliercounty.org. Thanks.

It’s one thing to ask for a vote-by-mail ballot, it’s another to return it. During the primary election 679,000 Florida vote-by-mail ballots were not returned!

Get Involved! On Sunday, Sept. 13th at 7 pm LWVFL is hosting a statewide town hall. President Jessica Lowe-minor will review the many opportunities available to League members to jump into action to help drive voter participation. RSVP here.

Now is not the time to let up. Now is the time to push forward. Remember, it’s not getting the no’s to say yes, it’s getting the yeses out to vote. Thanks for your support.

Your general election ballot might include more than 45 local, state, and federal offices to be filled, though the exact number depends on your residence address. In this presentation, Sandy Parker will review the offices and candidates, proposed amendments to the Florida constitution, and proposed local referenda that will be on the ballot for Collier County voters.

CONSERVATION COLLIER IS UNDER THREAT AGAIN!

The County Commission is considering another significant reduction in funding for Conservation Collier. Please contact all five Commissioners today and urge them to protect this voter-approved program.

In November 2020, 77% of Collier County voters approved renewal of Conservation Collier. Voters authorized a dedicated property tax of up to .25 mills per year to acquire and manage environmentally sensitive lands that protect water resources, wildlife habitat and wetlands. The Commission has already reduced the Conservation Collier millage to .2096. It is now considering a further reduction to .1772. Although the referendum allows the Commission to set the annual rate below .25 mills, Conservation Collier was overwhelmingly approved as a dedicated source of funding for land conservation. It should not become the balancing item in the County budget.

The final County budget hearing is Thursday, September 17, at 5:05 p.m. Please write the Commissioners today and ask them not to further reduce Conservation Collier funding.

Join us for an urgent statewide town hall on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at 7 p.m., where LWVFL President Jessica Lowe-Minor will discuss the many opportunities available to League members to jump into action.

With the primary election revealing that too many Floridians are choosing to opt out of our elections, we can do our part to increase voter participation in our state.

In the meeting, you will:
  • Hear from LWVFL President Jessica Lowe-Minor as we prepare for the general election.
  • Learn about many ways your League can engage your community to carry out our mission to Empower Voters.
  • Ask questions and learn how your local League can be supported as we head into the general election.

Please volunteer to observe the Collier Canvassing Board’s Logic and Accuracy test, which will open the November 3 general election cycle. On September 30, the SOE staff will test all the vote-tabulating machinery to demonstrate the accuracy of the election vote-counting system. This is an important League service in support of our mission to encourage informed and active participation in government. As League volunteers, we will show our support of free and fair elections with our presence at the Canvassing Board meeting as they authorize the opening of the general election cycle.

When: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, 9:00-11:30

Where: Supervisor of Elections Office, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples – 2nd floor Canvassing Board meeting room and Operations Center at the back of the SOE parking lot
