Dr. Catherine Hackney

Dr. Catherine Hackney loves working with others to address complex issues and problems; she is committed to celebrating the richness individuals bring to the community. She believes that there is always more to learn and welcomes the opportunities the League offers to do so.

Looking for constructive, non-partisan ways to address social issues, Catherine joined the LWVCC in 2022. She has served on the Education, Social Policy, and Juvenile Justice Committees.  A member of the 2024 League Leadership Class, she co-chairs the Reproductive Health Subcommittee and the Know Your County Government Program.

Catherine is committed to the work of the League in promoting democracy and voter engagement through education and advocacy.  She appreciates that speaking with one voice to influence public policy at the grassroots level allows the League to demonstrate a strong force for equity and justice.

Catherine brings a wealth of experience to the League from her extensive career in higher education. At Kent State University she served as a professor in Leadership Studies and as Associate Dean for Graduate Education. Prior to her service at KSU, Dr. Hackney was Dean of Graduate Studies at Ursuline College, a woman’s college in Cleveland.  Her professional career supported her work with women leaders in the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.  Insights gained through this work informed her book, Leading from a Feminist Soul.

Catherine is delighted to have been elected to a leadership position in the League of Women Voters Collier County.  She is eager to contribute to the good work of the League.
