| US ARMY CORE OF ENGINEERS (USACE)
COASTAL STORM RISK MANAGEMENT FEASIBILITY STUDY
The USACE is re-initiating their Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study for Collier County and is seeking public input. The purpose of the study is to recommend a plan which reduces the risk from storm surge, flooding and improves coastal resilience. The 2020 draft study which recommended hardened structures will be the starting point in 2023. We urge all LWV members to become involved. Attend the meetings; submit written comments; speak up. There are two public meetings: April 18, 4:00-6:00 on Zoom and April 26. 5:30-7:00 at the South Regional Library. Comments may also be provided in writing. To register for the meetings, to submit comments or for more information, please visit the project website.
The LWV and The Conservancy believe that there are nature-based solutions to address storm surge and coastal resiliency which will protect life and property as well as preserving and enhancing our natural coastal resources. This is important for maintaining the businesses and livelihoods that make up the robust local economy. Additional information and talking points are available from the Environmental Affairs Committee (Lynn Martin & Patti Forkan) | | CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH THE LEAGUE

| KNOW YOUR COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Highlights of the last day of the 40th KYCG class included a visit to the Board of County Commissioners meeting and witnessing a courtroom trial for a drug case. Unbeknownst to the students, the trial was staged! Thanks to our partners CCPS, 4H Youth Development and all the County agencies visited.

| KNOW YOUR COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS HONORED
Four of our members who were instrumental in developing Know Your County Government (KYCG) and shepherding in through 40 + years of success were honored at the April 10 General Meeting at Tiburon Golf Club. Linda Denning, a retired Collier County Extension Service agent for the 4H Youth Development Program, started the first KYCG in 1980 with the League of Women Voters and Collier County Public Schools. Kathleen Slebodnik, Joyce Fletcher, and Kathy Ryan made sure the program continued through the years with lots of help from many LWVCC members including many this year. A big congratulations and thank you to our trailblazers and all our members who supported the program through the years.
