Workshop 2: Following the Money—Understanding and Reading Your District’s Budget

This interactive session focuses on translating policy into practice— helping advocates, parents, and community members read and interpret their local district budgets. Participants will explore major spending categories, learn how to distinguish between operating and capital budgets, and understand how discretionary authority works for school boards. Real-world examples will illustrate how choices in transportation, facilities, staffing, and reserves impact classroom resources.
