Denise McLaughlin
With a passion for learning and for sharing new ideas with others, Denise McLaughlin has been fully engaged in a wide variety of community activities, including leadership positions with the LWVCC and the Pelican Bay Services Board.
She was drawn to the League when she moved to Florida because she wanted to understand the unique way that local and state government functions here. She has found her work on the League to be the best way to understand and then leverage her understanding of this state to bring about constructive change.
Denise has served in positions across the League. Her deep concerns about the unique and fragile ecosystem in SW Florida led her to the Environmental Affairs Committee which, she asserts, “does such a fabulous job”. She has also served with the Voter Services Committee which has been such an effective advocate for voting rights and voter education, and she was the Co-Director for the Leadership Development Committee, which focuses on deepening the skills of new League leaders. Using her MBA in Finance and the skills she acquired from her 30-year career as a financial services executive in New York, Denise has taken on the job of LWVCC Treasurer as well.
Denise’s deep commitment to the League stems in large part from its well-earned reputation as a trusted resource for good government. She feels that “we must leverage the unique and trusted voice of the LWV” to support this critically important goal.
